“Andrew Pyke has been my strength and conditioning coach since 2013 ( 8 years). Throughout the years as a swimmer it was known that “swimmers are uncoordinated on land and should only stick to training in the pool”. Andrew was quick to change that mindset and with his forward thinking about ways for me to become an athlete in and out of the pool. With the ability, knowledge and drive for success, Andrew has the capacity to create an individualised program to cater for a squad of athletes. With Andrew’s coaching my training increased to a whole new level and subsequently my success in competitions. With Andrew Pyke’s great work ethic, while creating an awesome, fun, humorous atmosphere. I couldn’t recommend anyone else.”

“My name is Kiah Melverton and I have been working with Andrew Pyke since 2014 and in that time, he has helped me develop professionally both in and out of the gym. Before I met Pykey I was timid and afraid of the gym, barely able to do a single chin-up. Gym has now become one of my favourite parts of my training week and I can now punch out sets of 10 chins like its nothing! Pykey is not only professional, adaptable, and avid listener but he also makes gym fun and enjoyable with his sense of humour and light-hearted personality. I wouldn’t be the swimmer I am today with having spent the last years working alongside him.”

“I have worked alongside Andrew Pyke since 2014 and over the course of our seven-year relationship, he has helped me grow both inside of outside of swimming. Andrew has played a critical role in helping me develop and succeed as an open water athlete. His biggest asset is the ability to adapt, implement and perfect his training programs for athletes of varying skill sets. I am currently the only open water swimmer who trains under Andrew Pyke, meaning he has had to create a whole new gym program to ensure I avoid injury, develop strength and improve general athleticism. In executing this, Andrew always referred to evidence-based research to guide my exercise program. Training with Pyke has been a highlight of my swimming career. He is able to make each gym session enjoyable with his positive energy and willingness to always give 110%.”

“I have been training in the gym with Andrew Pyke since I moved to the Gold Coast in 2016. In that time, he has completely transformed my strength and athleticism. Having never set foot in a gym before I moved, Andrew’s patience and perseverance helped me build a base of strength and movement. Over the next five years, his infectious positivity and energy created an enjoyable gym environment which encouraged me to enjoy gym and work harder. After years of not being able to do a single chin up, I can now do 10 unbroken. Andrew is an amazing coach, and he has played a huge role in my development as an athlete over the years.”

“Andrew Pyke was my strength and conditioning coach leading into my preparation for both Olympic trials and the subsequent 2016 Rio Olympic games. Andrew’s insight and coaching ability not only helped me reach new levels of strength and athleticism but was also invaluable with regards to injury prevention and injury management. Andrew’s ability to tailor and modify exercise programs to the specific needs/goals of athletes was always appreciated and well-received. Additionally, Andrew’s positive attitude and work ethic was contagious, he always made those around him feel welcome and ready to put in the hard work.”

“Andrew Pyke has been my strength and conditioning coach from 2014 – 2021, beginning when I was 16 years old. Pyke’s coaching has played a critical role in my success throughout my swimming career. He has pushed me to my limits both physically and mentally, and for this I am a stronger athlete and person. During my time with Pyke I have achieved 1x 22.5kg chin-up, 33 body weight chin ups, and can clean more than my body weight. Pyke is a complete professional who’s enthusiasm boosts team morale. He has played a critical role in shaping the TSS high performance squad into a supportive, team centred environment. He’s been an invaluable part of all TSS swimmer’s careers, and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him.”

“For the past 8 years I have had the great privilege and opportunity to be a part of Andrew’s strength and condition program. Throughout my time working with Andrew, he has been a major contributing factor in accelerating my swimming career from a junior state swimmer, into a representing athlete of the Swimming Australia team. His knowledge, focus and intent are a few of many characteristics that make Andrew a phenomenal educator and coach; I could not recommend anyone but Andrew for his expertise and unrivalled humour.”

“Beginning gym under Pykey I was not a strong person, didn’t enjoy strength or weights work, found gyms rather intimidating and basically had no clue what I was doing. Yet working with Pykey for 3 years he has made gym a time I enjoy, a space I feel comfortable and has developed my strength and technique exponentially. He has also worked alongside my back injury and helped me manage strength and conditioning without further injury and whilst also strengthening me in my back and core to levels I thought my injury would prevent me from reaching. And above all his approach and attitude as a coach is always for learning and developing programs tailored to individuals and the latest science and techniques.”

“During my athletic career, I’ve had the absolute privilege to work under Andrew in two different sports: rugby, and more predominantly swimming. Due to this, I feel I have the unique opportunity to speak for Andrew’s expertise in building programs that adapt and maximize the strength needed for distinct athletic movements. Andrew has an extraordinary awareness in understanding the specific functionalities of each sport. Using this knowledge, his ability to adapt and individually cater programs for each athlete to achieve maximum output is unparalleled. During my time under Andrew, I was able to significantly improve not only my overall strength, but the strength in the movements I required for my specific athletic performance in both rugby and middle distance freestyle swimming. In turn, his programs helped me maximize my development as a rugby player, and substantially drop times in my swimming events in order to achieve my ultimate goal of obtaining a scholarship position on the University of Southern California division 1 men’s swimming and diving team. I have no doubt in my mind that the athletic understanding, careful planning, and attention to detail put into Andrew’s programs has been a pivotal factor in my sporting success. His enthusiasm, intensity, and comedy creates an environment in the gym that gets the best out of his athletes, something I have not experienced with other strength coaches. I could not recommend Andrew more for his expertise, attitude, and unique approach to adapting and elevating athletic performance. “

“Pykey was my strength and conditioning coach while I was a swimmer at TSS aquatic. I’ve now moved onto rowing and have made the New Zealand elite development squad and under 23 team, and am also rowing at the university of Washington in Seattle. I’m certain I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this without the excellent base of strength and knowledge I gained under Pykey’s coaching. His knowledge, enthusiasm, respect and persistence make him the best gym coach I’ve ever had by far. I have experienced so many strength coaches through swimming and rowing programs and I know Pykey would thrive in both an American collegiate and national team setting. The way he individualises and tailors the program to the sport, athlete and personal goals is next to none. He has so much to offer to all types of athletes and I am so lucky to have been coached Pykey for as long as I was, he’s truly set me up to be able to handle and thrive in any sporting environment.”

“Andrew Pyke was my S and C coach for six years across rugby and rowing. The valuable lessons and training programs that I underwent helped me achieve many of my goals in my respective sports at the time. Still to this day do I call back on the lessons about injury prevention, warming up, nutrition, the value of good form, and how to truly push myself in my daily training for the University of California Berkeley Rowing team.”

“Pykey was none of the most influential people I’m my life during my time At The Southport School. Not only as my S&C coach but also as a role model. During the 2018 pre season for rowing (end of 2017) in the gym pykey was able to do more than just help us develop our physical strength and endurance but also mental strength, focus and helped build a level of comradery across not only the 1st VIII but across the whole senior program that was unmatched in any other aspect of the sport. The Passion pykey coached us with during or S&C sessions and his ability to help bring each athlete to new levels is a reason I believe pykey was one of the main reasons we were able to Win the GPS Head of The River in 2018 and I don’t think we could have without him.”

“Pykey was my S&C coach during school for the first XV Rugby team at The Southport School. What I’ve realised about Pykey was the energy and the passion he gave to us all on a day to day basis and the drive to get each and every one of us better. Even though Pykey is a very good S&C, what I loved the most about him is how genuine he is and how he connected to each player individually.”

“I first met pykey in 2016 when I moved to The Southport School. Pykeys S&C knowledge was top class. He understood our gym programs very well but also had great knowledge around Olympic lifting, circuits or smashing us in Zuu sessions which was refreshing at times. However, what I loved most about pykey was he created an environment where everyone was welcome and felt comfortable being themselves. pykey was always willing to help no matter what level you were at and I can honestly say he played a massive part in my development on and off the field.”

“Andrew Pyke was the strength and conditioning coach at my high school. During this time, he introduced me and my teammates to a strength and fitness program that was perfectly suited to our needs as rugby players. The gym sessions combined power and strength to prepare us for our games and trainings and ensured our bodies were strong enough to ensure we could handle the intense collisions in GPS rugby. He also was very supportive to me personally when returning from an off-season surgery I had due to an ankle injury. He often took the time to assist in any extra conditioning I wanted to do, even creating my own fitness program with a variety of cross training and on feet running sessions that improved my anaerobic and aerobic capacities immensely. I am thankful for what he taught me during this time because it allowed me to develop the internal discipline and dedication to fitness that I needed to further improve my physical attributes and skills to succeed in my sport. In addition to this, Pykey scheduled additional fitness sessions utilizing zuu movements in the gym in the off-season for anyone who wished to participate to ensure that the boys were keeping their fitness and mobility levels up to standard. These were made so that anyone could attend and complete, whatever levels of fitness and strength as you just had to complete them as best as you could. He also provided an understanding of how to properly train and recover in order to yield the greatest benefits from our sessions. The lessons Pykey taught me in the gym and about my own health and fitness have had a massive impact on my sporting career and achievements and I often revisit and complete most of the strength sessions and fitness sessions he made for me when I need to do additional training.”

“Pykey was probably one of the most influential people in my life when it comes to sport. He was my S&C coach from for our first XV team rugby team at TSS and for many other sporting teams. Being the skinny kid I was at the time, Pykey really guided me with his knowledge and techniques around the gym. But it was more his passion and love for the boys that really made not only myself motivated but every other kid in that team. Pykey’s relationship with everyone and the way he handles situations shows he’s a real role model and is someone i can go to if i need help with anything. He has all the right tools!”

“I was privileged enough that Andrew (Pykey) came into the intial stages of my elite athlete life. The base and fundamentals he taught myself and the team showcased his precise knowledge and understanding of physical development and elite exercise training. Along side his meticulous approach to the details of movements across multi disciplinary areas of sport, it’s his passion that I believe strongly differs him from others in the field.
The ability to empower and relate to all types of people is something I have watched and felt first hand. Wether this be through his approachable and loveable character or his willingness to achieve and push others to their abouslte maximum. “Pykey was one of my many SC coaches and probably my most memorable one. During the time knowing Andrew back in high school he always put others health and well being first. He was a top bloke but also knew how to keep very professional. He knew what you would need to work on to get you closer to your goal!
I am thankful for the knowledge he has passed on to me and for teaching me to always back myself in anything I do. He has always told me to keep “consistent” and from learning that I have been able to achieve many things.”

“Pykey, was my first real S&C coach and I’m so grateful to have been given the best in the beginning of my sporting journey. I trained under Pykey for a period of 3 years where I was taught all the fundamentals of how to train efficiently in the gym and on the field. What I valued most from my experience with Pykey is his clear understanding of weightlifting techniques and ensuring they are done properly and efficiently. Throughout my rugby career I have been exposed to many programs that I have required me to undertake Olympic lifts and I am so fortunate Pykey had guided and taught me the foundations and techniques to preform those lifts to a high standard in the early stages of my rugby career. To further add Pykey embodies the persona of ‘energy’, there was a never a dull session with Pykey. When Pykey was taking the session, there was an uplifted vibe in the room and everyone respected it. Pykey brought the best out in everyone as he made it enjoyable to work hard and push yourself.”

“I have known Pykey for the past six years. He was my strength and conditioning coach during my time in the first XV at TSS. He is extremely professional and passionate about helping his athletes achieve their best results. His sessions are tough, but he always made them enjoyable. Pykey always motivated me during our training, especially when we would lift some heavy weights and when we would go all out in our ZUU sessions, helping me push myself to my limits. He has an extensive knowledge of a variety training techniques, and I was constantly learning from him. He is a great trainer and an even better bloke, and I couldn’t recommend him more!”

It was awesome to get shown things like power cleans early and he made sure we always had good form and good culture in the gym. He also used to put on speed sessions which were good for me to work on all the little things I would need as I got older. He made it all fun to be part of and is an energetic guy. Thanks Pykey!”

“Being apart of the elite player development system at the Brisbane broncos and having pykey as a strength and conditioning coach compliment eachother so well. The professionalism and level at which I am expected to train with him is no different to when I’m at the broncos. the vibe he creates and the personal connections he makes with his athletes creates an environment with banter and lots of energy which for myself really brings the best out of my training sessions. He has helped me excel in pre season periods and prepare myself for the season ahead. But what I have liked most is the education around maintaining my gains from the preseason across a season of competition with smart training rather than excessive training.”

“During the short time (2018 onwards) I have spent with Andrew Pyke, his efforts throughout our trainings/meetings have been worthwhile. His enthusiasm, eagerness and supportiveness around his coaching have always made our sessions memorable. Upon leaving the school he now works at (Coombabah State High) to Brisbane Grammar School, Mr Pyke remained an integral part within my schooling and rugby journey, often setting up lunch times to meet with me just to catch up. His professionalism within the strength and conditioning department is well regarded, that S&C coaches I have also been trained by (Brisbane Broncos, Brisbane Grammar, Tweed Seagulls coach’s) have high praises for his virtues and understandings. His gym classes are always one to remember, as he joins in and encourages his students/athletes with his outgoing music, something I like to compare my training sessions I have now, to his ones. Overall, he’s a down to earth coach (which aren’t all too common nowadays), who knows how to get the best out of his athletes/students. “
